This, is Altzeimers Disease, depicted in the picture to the right. This disease affects mainly people over the age of 60 years old. If you take a close look at the picture to the right, you can see two halves of a brain. The left side is a healthy brain, capable of remembering many things. The brain on the right is a brain that is deteriorating due to the Alzheimer's Disease. The defective brain (right), is significantly smaller than the healthy brain (Left). This is due to the fact that the Cortex, the outer layer of the brain, shrivels up, damaging areas involving thinking, planning, and remembering. The Hippocampus, the area of the brain critical to the formation of new memories, also shrinks, causing a loss in the ability to make new memories. As you can see, Alzheimer's Disease does many bad things to the brain, causing many more problems with your memory, planning, etc.
